The PS3 Slim features an IBM cell processor that is capable of performing 2 trillion calculations per second. The updated Slim PS3 utilizes a smaller 45nm processor which is just as fast as other PS3 versions, however it’s more energy efficient. This enables all of this raw power to be compacted into a smaller form factor. The PS3 Slim has the standard AV and composite connections as well as an HDMI connection which allows for unconverted picture and sound which is ideal for todays HD television sets and projectors. Along with full HD (1080p) video quality, the Playstation 3 also supports HD audio such Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS 5.1 and Linear PCM 7.1.

No PS4 in 2013?
0While many consider that the PS3 to be at the midway point of it’s life cycle, Sony remains increasing tight lipped about the expected Playstation 4. When asked about the PS4, Sony Computer Entertainment America’s CEO and President Jack Tretton had this to say
“In terms of when you talk about [the next generation] and when you announce it, it really depends on the health of the existing platform and the other things you have going on,” Tretton remarked. “And right now, we’re focused on PlayStation 3, and I’ve got another platform (PlayStation Vita) to get out the door in seven days, so I don’t want to be thinking about trying to launch new technology anytime soon. I want to focus all our energy on our console business, which is really just hitting its stride, and Vita, which really deserves a dedicated push from us. I, quite frankly, would be very distracted if I had to be talking about next generation hardware this year.”
Despite consistent denials from Sony, many are expecting a possible announcement of the PS4 at this years E3.
